The Art of Glass

Originally from New Zealand, George Agius has travelled  the world honing her skills in the art of glass.

After studying at Wanganui Glass School in New Zealand, George moved to Canada to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary in 2011. She then relocated to Adelaide to begin her two year associate training program in the Glass Studio at the Jam Factory Contemporary Craft and Design. George is now a full time practising artist at the Jam Factory.

“My work explores the role that culture, ancestry and heritage have in constructs of the self. My work displays these narratives in a way that is familiar and yet unsettling to the viewer: that evokes the awareness of the absent figure. Through glass objects I aim to conjure contemplative nostalgia in the viewer.”

George has exhibited in Australia, New Zealand and Canada and worked for glass artists all over the world.

She was a finalist in the 2012, 2014 and 2015 South Australian Emerging Designer Award and her work is held in public collections in Wanganui, New Zealand. In 2015 George was awarded the Vicki Torr Memorial Prize at the Australian Glass Conference in Adelaide.

Some of George's amazing pieces are on display in our restaurant and bar, including these amazing Ice Cream lights. The artist herself will be on hand to talk about her art on Sunday 3rd April from 2.00pm as part of our Kick Start Sunday program.
